Green tea has been widely studied for its effect on weight loss, especially for its ability to increase metabolic rate and oxidize fat. In one study, green tea extract containing 150 mg of caffeine and 270 mg of EGCG was shown to increase metabolic rate by 4% over a 24-hour period.
